Gordon Borrell is a sought-after speaker for conferences and company meetings and is the local media industry’s leading analyst. He is ranked in the top 2% among Gerson Lehrman Group’s 150,000 consultants worldwide and is quoted frequently in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Ad Age, Forbes and other publications. He has appeared on CNN and other TV and radio programs discussing trends and forecasts for local media. Prior to starting Borrell Associates, Gordon was vice president for new media for Landmark Communications, where he worked for 22 years.
Colby has been helping traditional media companies adopt new media technologies since the early 1980s. He was vice president of sales for an ASCII videotex system vendor in 1983, introducing the technology to banks. He then spent nine years with Brite Voice Systems, selling audiotex systems and voice information services to television stations, directory companies and newspapers. Colby founded two companies that provided interactive audiotex services through local media partners, and then became Director of Business Development for Pantheon Inc., which developed online content automation systems for media companies.
Jim Brown has more than 25 years of innovative and results-driven leadership in fast-paced sales and marketing roles. Prior to joining Borrell Associates he worked for The Virginian-Pilot Media Companies as Director of Business Development. He has worked in various sales and development capacities over the years, developing an expertise in sales development and sales management.
Corey heads up Borrell’s ongoing surveys of local marketers — the largest survey of SMBs in the U.S. — as well as the company’s expansive database of local advertising and marketing expenditures. He’s also in charge of custom research projects, product development, and providing market insights and forecasts. He joined Borrell Associates in 2014 as director of research. Prior to Borrell, he was director of market intelligence at Gannett Co. Inc., where he managed the dissemination of market data and strategy to more than 80 local media properties. At The Dallas Morning News, Corey led a B2B research team that helped create campaigns based on household-level consumer habits and clients’ own databases.
Shari has over 35 years of hands-on leadership experience in multiple media organizations – newspaper, radio, cable television, and digital media, Shari’s extensive sales management background includes sales management roles at Comcast Spotlight, Knight Quality Stations (now part of IHeart Media), and local newspapers in Vermont and New Hampshire. She has shown the ability to adapt and succeed in non-traditional environments, mentoring others to do the same.
Based in Toronto, Andrew has worked for more than 25 years in the media sector. His early career was with LexisNexis, where he was director of textbook publishing for the UK division, before moving to Canada in 1987 to head up their operations in Toronto.. He then joined CanWest (now Postmedia) where he was closely involved in developing CanWest’s web strategies and the expansion of their online aggregation businesses. He also contributed to drafting the newspaper industry positions on copyright law reform in Canada. As Director of Corporate Development for Borrell Associates, Andrew is responsible for financial management, aspects of sales administration, external partnerships, managing the annual local online advertising conference and all non-US sales. He has a law degree from the University of Cambridge.
Taryn leads the training program of Borrell’s Compass platform. A tool that helps media marketers identify where ad spending is headed, and how to uncover opportunity in their market. Prior to joining Borrell, Taryn worked for WEHCO Media in various sales and management roles as well as leading a digital team. She has hands on experience working with local SMBs to large enterprise accounts, helping grow and develop their marketing strategy.
